The Twentynine Palms Planning Commission hosted a public hearing Tuesday evening and heard concerns from the public and business owners regarding a proposed 95-room hotel downtown.
Last night, the Twentynine Palms Planning Commission held a public hearing on a proposed 95-room hotel adjacent to Project Phoenix. A representative of the applicant, Robert F Tuttle Architects, on behalf of Verdant Twentynine Palms, LLC, was present at the meeting and took questions regarding the proposed development, Hilton’s Home2 Suites, located on the southwest corner of Freedom Way and the Paseo de Mara, 200 feet south of Twentynine Palms Highway.
The commission approved two resolutions – an addendum to the Initial Study/Mitigated Negative Declaration the project, and approval of the Conditional Use Permit, Site Plan and Design Review for the three-story hotel development.
Issues that came up during the public hearing included the hiring of local workers, noise concerns, doubts around the sewage treatment plan, status of the hotel’s kitchen and alcohol license, and how the new hotel may impact the number of Vacation Home Rentals in the region. Of note, the new hotel will be pet friendly.
