DAF Trucks has launched its next-generation XD and XF Electric trucks, promising ranges from 200km to more than 500km on a single charge

DAF Trucks has launched new iterations of its XD and XF Electric trucks – promising ranges from 200km to more than 500km on a single charge.

The trucks, which feature completely new modular drivelines and will be available as tractor and rigid models, were launched at the IAA Transportation exhibition in Hanover, Germany.

The XD and XF Electric models are equipped with the PACCAR e-motors that deliver outputs from 170 to 350kW (230 to 480hp). In combination with battery packs of up to five strings, fully electric ranges can exceed 500km, depending on circumstances and application, according to DAF.

Charging for the XD and XF Electric is also fast: with powers up to 325kW, allowing a three-string battery pack to be boosted from 0 to 80% of its capacity in about 45 minutes. Available as an option is an on-board charger with the capability of alternating current charging up to 22kW. This provides flexibility to operate the vehicle where DC chargers are unavailable.

The XD and XF Electric trucks will be assembled on a brand-new production line in Eindhoven. The advanced DAF Electric Truck Assembly will start series production in 2023. The trucks are available to order now.

Additionally at IAA Transportation, DAF as announced it is expanding the product range of its XF model, which scooped the ‘International Truck of the Year 2022’ award, with the addition of a Day Cab and a Sleeper Cab, which complement the existing Sleeper High version.
